Some of our customers noticed that with the Fall release of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013, some of their users were not seeing the required field asterisk next to mandatory fields within CRM. This, along with a few other UI inconsistencies, seemed to affect random users, and wasn’t something we could resolve with browser upgrades or Java patches.
After a good amount of digging, we found the culprit: the Enable high contrast setting in the user’s personal options menu.
What is meant as an enabler for users with disabilities was unwittingly causing CRM to render pages without certain UI elements for users without specialized browsers or accessibility devices.
The fix is relatively simple.
From the Settings Gear select the Option menu.
The user’s Set Personal Options dialog will appear. Under the General tab, locate the Support high contrast settings sub-section and ensure that the Enable high contrast option box is NOT selected.
Select OK and the menu will close and your CRM window will refresh.
You should now see the return of your mandatory field marker as well as a few other various UI elements your browser may not have been displaying properly.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way for Administrators to set this value on a global level, so for now, users will have to do so themselves. The good news is this is an easy fix to a somewhat vexing issue.
