This has been a banner year for Microsoft BI and Analytics.

Microsoft Power BI continue that strong momentum in the third quarter when it was recognized as a leader in the Forrester Wave report for Enterprise BI Platforms (Vendor-Managed), Q3 2019, with the highest score in both strategy and market presence.

In the report, Forrester notes: “You no longer need to be shy about using Microsoft Power BI; it's a killer BI platform. The days of Microsoft BI as a second-class citizen among large enterprise BI platforms have come and gone. Power BI leapfrogged the competition since Forrester's last evaluation and addressed most of the functionality modern enterprise BI platforms must have.”

The report goes on to say: “Organizations should consider Power BI as their main enterprise BI platform before looking elsewhere, especially those that use Office 365.” The evaluation considers 19 criterion of vendor-managed enterprise business intelligence platforms providers and identified the 14 most significant ones, including Amazon Web Services, IBM, Oracle, Salesforce, SAP, and Tableau Software. Microsoft was in good company.

Data creation via IoT, Moore’s Law, democratization of data and ever-increasing use cases make data science techniques available that were formerly only available in the labs of Google or Amazon. To identify this as a hot space is dramatically understated. Take a look at where Microsoft landed in the Gartner Magic Quadrant rankings in 2015, and where they are now, far and away at the top spot. That’s a huge jump in a short amount of time.

I can personally attest to the advancements Microsoft has made against a comprehensive and powerful BI platform. Today at eLogic, we are building solutions that are retrieving and consuming disparate and complex data, transforming and preparing it, running advanced customized machine learning at scale, surfacing results in business applications with rich visualizations, allowing for embedded user signal feedback applications that orchestrate signals back through machine learning, all to create  continuously learning and improving closed feedback systems. All of this is performed on the Microsoft Platform – every single part.

To have this ability and connectivity on a singular platform is allowing my team to create business solutions that are optimizing processes and delivering outcomes that move the needle and create value through increased efficiency, process optimization, and revenue realization.
